Wait a minute...I know you...where did you go?

Sorry, I was taking a nap

Ok, so this is the first thing I've written in about two months.  I'm not totally sure, but I think it might be partly my fault.  Oh well.  So you're probably wondering what I've been up to the last 6-8 weeks.  Then again, you may not give a fuck at this point.  Either way, I'm ready to start writing again and there's a lot I want to address, so more will be showing up again soon.  Today, I think I'm just going to road map things out for you.

Damn, I used a ton of commas in that first paragraph.  My friends with English or teaching degrees probably would not approve.  And yes, that is me standing in front of the world famous Casa Bonita before my first trip in there.  It reminds me a little of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyworld.   I plan on going back there again in the near future and doing a proper write up.  And that vaguely relates to the next thing I was going to talk about...how convenient.  Looks like you'll have to keep reading.

One of the main reasons my writing has vanished as of late is my ongoing job search.  It's been a big fucking struggle.  You see, the thing is, I don't want to wait tables anymore.  I'm 30 now and it's time to get away from that life.  Unfortunately, that's the only job I've had for the last decade and it's the only thing I have any work experience at.  You gotta love those quandaries.

Primarily, I've been applying for office type jobs, but I don't get to many replies since I don't have much official experience.  The one I do hear back from either pay too little or are scams trying to get money from me.  It's gotten to the point where I can immediately identify the scam job posts on Craigslist.  The same thing goes for scam apartment listings.

While my search for full time employment has been rough, I do have the sweetest part time job ever.  You see, Colorado is one of fourteen states that has laws allowing for medicinal marijuana.  And as luck would have it, I have a friend who has a dispensary downtown.  It's a great fucking job...to bad it's not full time.  Like just about everything else I've mentioned, I will do a proper write up on this subject.  Honestly, there will probably be many articles dealing with this subject in the near future.

Work and pot, well I got the important things out of the way...what's next?   I guess I should talk about my brief bit of nightlife experience.  I've been to a few bars, seen a few shows, had drinks with old friends, and shared stories.  Those were good times.  I can't say much about the club scene because I haven't checked it out...douche bags en masse is not really what I call a good time.

Of course, I still run into to many of those fucking hipsters with their stupid fucking mustaches.  Maybe I'm just getting old (not to mention a little hungover right now), but if I have to dress up like a fool in order to impress a girl...well fuck that.  I don't care if it's ironic, you look like an idiot.  And quit buying PBR when you have a trust fund.

Sorry, I found that soap box under my feet for a minute and went with it...thank you Miller High Life.  I've been to  a couple good shows in the last two months.  A few weeks ago I saw the Appleseed Cast play Low Level Owl Vols. 1 & 2 in sequence.  This was a band that I used to book often back in Lexington during my radio station days, so I felt obligated almost.  The show was a venue called Hi-Dive, which is on a stretch of Broadway that I'm looking to live near.  It was a great show...at least I think so.

We all got there late and the place was packed, so we were pretty much in the back by the merch table.  And then the drinking commenced.  Since I don't have a car out here, I've been more inclined to have that extra beer or two that I normally wouldn't do if I was driving.  It's worked out well so far.

Last night, I went and saw Tim Barry at 3 King's Tavern.  I'm not going to go into too much depth on this one because this show will more than likely be my next full article.  However for those unfamiliar, Tim Barry used to be the singer for Avail which was one of the best punk bands of the last twenty years.  They're probably my favorite punk band, at least of the ones I've seen live.  After all, I do have the Dixie logo tattooed on my right forearm.

With Avail on a likely indefinite hiatus, Tim Barry has become a country/folk singer.  It seems strange at first, but in a way it makes perfect sense...and he's not the only one making this transition.  Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music is doing the same thing.  Oddly enough, HWM is another favorite punk band of mine from that same era.  I'll explore that idea more in my concert review.

The show was great and I drank too much, so that's probably going to do it for my first post in about two months.  Stay tuned for my unfolding Denver experience.  I feel like writing again, so hopefully I'll get back to the old pace again.  There will be more photos added to this article soon if you happen to read it before you watch the Cats play...I don't think Photoshopping is in the cards right now, maybe tonight.

Since I just mentioned it, how about them Cats?  The possible Elite Eight game against West Virginia worried me when the brackets first came out.  They've got a solid front line which can almost match UK...dominance on the boards will be key.  But they don't have P-Patt and Boogie, not to mention Daniel Orton coming off the bench (sorry he doesn't have a good nickname yet).

Orton doesn't even start and there's a lot of "experts" that project him as a lottery pick in the NBA Draft this year, which makes five Cats that are projected lottery picks in the draft if they choose to leave UK early.  I figured on Wall, Cousins, and Patterson on leaving after this year, but thought Bledsoe and Orton would stick around for another year or two.  However, they've both played that well this season to garner the interest of the NBA.  I think this might be a once in a lifetime team.

Anyways, I've got a real bad headache.  Adios.
