Colorado RockiesWell, my plan to write on the regular doesn't seem to be working too well so far. What can I say? I'm sure you're not shocked or anything. I work too much and really don't do too much outside of that. Big city living sure is expensive. Maybe you got that. Anyways, there also hasn't been much going on that I've wanted to do. Sure, I've gone to a couple of Rockies games. And while we're on that topic, once again the Rockies are getting hot in September in a last ditch bid to get into the playoffs. Even if they do, the bullpen is suspect and is the reason they haven't run away with the division already. Carlos Gonzalez is a great emerging talent who will hopefully be with the team for many years. He has a legitimate shot at the Triple Crown, as do two other players in the NL. It's also the only possible way I see him winning the MVP vote over Pujols.
Sorry, I wasn't intending this to be a local sports report. Getting back on track...maybe...these next few days are my big weekend of music. Aside from seeing Superchunk at the Westword festival back in June, I haven't been to too many shows this summer. But that's about to change. The next three days is my own personal end of summer rock and roll extravaganza. Tonight, I get to see 90s indie rock legends Pavement perform at the Ogden Theater here in Denver. I was never a huge Pavement fan, but I do own their first two records and those are both solid. I was too much into punk when subsequent albums were released and never got into them. The show is within walking distance of my apartment at a venue that has High Life on tap. So, if I see or talk to you tonight, I'll go ahead and apologize for whatever now.
Working all day tomorrow should be a blast as well. However, as soon as work is over I get to attend the first day of the weekend long Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary festivities. Tim Barry will be headlining on Saturday and that's the set I'm really looking forward to. It's kinda funny that I've gotten into the bluegrass/folk/country punk genre after I moved away from Kentucky. I think it's my way of keeping some sort of connection. Of course, it took the front man of one of my favorite bands to get me into this genre. Whether with Avail or onstage with just a guitar, Tim Barry speaks words of wisdom.

Hey, guess what? I took a detour again for a paragraph or so. Anyways, I was listening to Pavement's Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain on my turntable and a few ponderations entered my head. I shared them on the facebook, and that post got the wheels turning, oh ever so slowly. While those wheels are turning, I share the original post with you:
I'm listening to "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" on the turntable whilst getting ready for work and this thought pops in my head: how many people (i.e. kids) will be at this show and only recognize "Cut Your Hair?" It's kinda like when I saw Dinosaur Jr. last year and they played "Feel the Pain" and the guy next to me gets all excited and says to his buddy, "It's the song from Rock Band!" Seriously people...
When I looked back at the post, it seemed that I was getting into cranky old guy mode. I'm only 30, but I really don't understand a lot about that generation a few years younger than me. And by don't understand, I mean that there's many times when I'm walking around and think to myself, "I don't get it kids. You all look like a bunch of idiots. Why?" I don't know which is worse: the hipsters or the Juggalos. Honestly, it's a lose-lose situation. That reminds me of an idea I had a few weeks ago for a movie. However, that might make a good post for a future edition of this series.
Finally, we get to the point of this entire post. Since these moments seem to happen to me more often than I'd like, I figured I might as well document them. Hence, the new somewhat regular feature "You Kids Stay Off My Lawn." I'll do my best to make posts on this subject as often as possible. They'll be short, so that's always helpful. Anyways, that's about all I have to say for now.
