]]>You Kids Stay Off My Lawnhttp://www.bitchild.com/random-rowe/2010/9/3/you-kids-stay-off-my-lawn.htmlChairmanRowe2010-09-03T15:06:25ZColorado Rockies Denver Humor Music Pavement Tim Barry YKSOMLWell, my plan to write on the regular doesn't seem to be working too well so far.  What can I say?  I'm sure you're not shocked or anything.  I work too much and really don't do too much outside of that.  Big city living sure is expensive.  Maybe you got that.  Anyways, there also hasn't been much going on that I've wanted to do.  Sure, I've gone to a couple of Rockies games.  And while we're on that topic, once again the Rockies are getting hot in September in a last ditch bid to get into the playoffs.  Even if they do, the bullpen is suspect and is the reason they haven't run away with the division already.  Carlos Gonzalez is a great emerging talent who will hopefully be with the team for many years.  He has a legitimate shot at the Triple Crown, as do two other players in the NL.  It's also the only possible way I see him winning the MVP vote over Pujols.

Sorry, I wasn't intending this to be a local sports report.  Getting back on track...maybe...these next few days are my big weekend of music.  Aside from seeing Superchunk at the Westword festival back in June, I haven't been to too many shows this summer.  But that's about to change.  The next three days is my own personal end of summer rock and roll extravaganza.  Tonight, I get to see 90s indie rock legends Pavement perform at the Ogden Theater here in Denver.  I was never a huge Pavement fan, but I do own their first two records and those are both solid.  I was too much into punk when subsequent albums were released and never got into them.  The show is within walking distance of my apartment at a venue that has High Life on tap.  So, if I see or talk to you tonight, I'll go ahead and apologize for whatever now.

"So," you may be asking yourself, "Mr. Lee, what the fuck have you been doing for the last six months?"  The short answer is settling in to life in Denver.  My struggle of a job search never panned out like I had planned, but luckily things still worked out for me.  For those who remember, I was working part-time at the front desk of a medicinal marijuana dispensary when I first moved out here.

]]>In Remembrancehttp://www.bitchild.com/random-rowe/2010/4/13/in-remembrance.htmlChairmanRowe2010-04-13T16:28:08ZChina Family Society TravelI know what most of you are probably thinking: "In a typical Rowan fashion, there's a flurry of new articles over the course of a few days and then nothing for a week or two."   And as of late, that's a pretty spot on assessment.  My passion for writing definitely ebbs and flows...then again it's more of a hobby than career at this point.  However, this recent break has been done out of respect and mourning.

My grandfather passed away four weeks ago in Shanghai.  Even though I hadn't seen him in almost four years, I took it pretty bad.  I was fine when I was around people, but it was rough when I was left to my own thoughts.  There were many reasons for this: normal grieving process, my grandfather was the last direct link to the traditional Chinese culture, and obviously the loss of the family patriarch.  Although I think it was mostly the guilt.  I definitely could've been a better grandson.

That's Josh Small on slide guitar.  Usually he tours with Tim, but didn't this time because he's recording his own record.  While it took away a dimension of the music, it also meant that it was only Tim Barry and his guitar, which is almost better in a way.  He played for as long as he felt like and also came down into the crowd for a few songs...this was one of them.
